The SEC as a Formidable Counterpart to the NYSE

Contemporary Analysis of the NYSE Chart

NYSE noon chart standard wheel
Figure 1 The NYSE noon chart.

Successful financial charts are dependent upon close contacts of Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto. The NYSE noon chart is certainly no exception: a highly charged and mostly safe environment for the creation and proliferation of wealth.  Venus is peregrine, meaning that it makes no major aspects to other planets, but in trine to the ascendant, showing that this is not the place for those who have fears or anxieties about money.  Jupiter and Pluto are in trine, giving banking and investors ample access to the institution's resources.

Trines from the Moon to Uranus as well as Mercury to Mars also foster an amicable workplace, provided that the participants conform to the political milieu.

But, this is where the "country club" stuff ends.  The planets in opposition from Aries to Libra are somewhat troubling in harsh aspects, howerver, oppositions seem to be more forgiving by allowing help to come in from thirs parties. Saturn and Neptune are in close aspect, as well as Moon and Jupiter, which suggests an environment of salesmen that will always be tempted to embellish the truth and engage in scams that delude investors.  History has shown this to be the case, and the current debacle is no exception.  A constant hum of scam artists have always been noted on Wall Street; large-scale scamming was rampant during the Civil War, and also in the 20's preceeding the Depression.

The midpoints offer us a more detailed look at the institution's character.  Mars, the planet of action, is found at the midpoint of Jupiter and Uranus, noted as [MA = JU/UR], which is the combination most associated with sudden increases in wealth.

Figure 2  90º dial showing MA=JU/UR

Reinhold Ebertin's delineation of this combination in his Combination of Stellar Influences, or COSI, states the following:

Principle:  Optimism, a lucky chance, blissful realisation.

Sociological Correspondence:  Organizers, investors. - Adventures and fortune-hunters.

Probable Manisfestations:  (+)...a successful speculation. (-)...tendency to miss the best chances for opportunities....

With Mars:  ...The desire to succeed in life by one's good fortune, speculations, the stage of making a fortunate decision (engagement).4

Jupiter plays another crucial part in the NYSE with its opposition aspect to the stifling midpoint combination of Moon and Saturn, which also falls on the midpoint of the Sun and Mars [JU = MO/SA = SO/MA].  Everything Jupiter touches yeilds optimism, and without Jupiter to bolster enthusiasm in this combination, the NYSE would have failed.  The difficulties that Moon/Saturn [MO/SA] brings to any chart result in withdrawal and conservatism, forces that are smothering to the vitality of Sun/Mars [SO/MA] risk-taking and bravery.  Jupiter helps to balance these forces that would ordinarily burn each other out.

Jupiter's midpoint tree

A third combination of note is the Sun on the midpoints of both Venus/Mars and Jupiter/Nodes [SO = VE/MA = JU/NN].  Jupiter and the nodes propel a sense of confidence into the future, as well as anchor the community of investors in fellowship mutual admiration, while Venus and Mars provide a "sexy" attraction to an otherwise stoic business; with the Sun, the participants can take pride in their work while deriving pleasure from the institution's mission.

Venus, planet of material desires, also finds itself on an important combination. The combination of Saturn and Uranus is the balancing of traditional values against revolutionary pressures, or what Munkasey calls the "balancing of conservatives and progressives."5 The value and utility of this for the institution rests in its ability to digest changes the marketplace before implementing the best response that maximizes those changes' effectiveness. The best example of this is how the NYSE has carefully implemented computer technology over the years. (This has backfired, too, as will be discussed later.) Innovations such as the ticker-tape were borne from the need of investors to obtain market quotations quickly, especially those that lived in a distant city. The NYSE is usually wise enough to let any new technology prove its effectiveness before it implements such into the works. A current example is the use of palm pilots for the 1300 floor traders.

Volatility in the NYSE may be centered around the the midpoint tree of Luna. Mercury and Pluto are in square, and conjunct on the 90 dial, and this gives us the equation of [MO = MA//ME/PL]:

Luna's midpoint scenario
Figure 6 Luna's midpoint tree in 90.

Luna is the instinctual impulse and the emotional content of any chart, and also the catalyst of receptivity from others. She is where we look inward, and how we define our "home." In an institutional chart such as this, she is the whole of the members/participants, and thus what kinds of people are drawn into the fold -- in this case Mars/Pluto types: agressive, overachieving, brutal, militant, nefarious, power-driven, oppressive, fanatical, combative, and dishonest, but also persistant, justice-seeking, rehabilitive, with an ability to purify in certain circumstances. The NYSE is not a club for the faint-of-heart!

The sensitive points, 21 Cardinal and 6 Mutable, could be the ones to watch for market volatility to increase. Sure enough, we find just that for the week that ended with the infamous market crash of October 29, 1929, in which the market lost 25% of its value in one day. Two combinations converged on the Lunar midpoint tree that caused rampant panic among the traders: Mars/Saturn [MA/SA] transited ~6 mutable while Sun/Uranus [SO/UR] transited ~21 cardinal -- the latter exacerbating the former, as seen in the following table.

NYSE Luna.................2047' Aries

The next chart shows the pattern above converging on the morning of "Black Friday":

The Crash of October 27, 1987 was different in that it was spurred on by computer programmed trading, but we can see that on that morning, as the market opened, a clustering of midpoint combinations fell on the 0 cardinal points which is also in aspect to the NYSE's Uranus @ 1519 Leo, in the middle of a fixed sign that are the midpoints of the cardinal points, the notation of which is:

{[NYSE UR] = [0] = [transiting MA/SA = VE/PL = UR//MO/NE]}

and can be translated as the NYSE's technological backbone's vulerabilities allowed damages to the pool of wealth due to confusion surrounding the causes of the problem of unforseen negative human responses to technology. Or, the machines operated in ways that humans did not expect and wealth was under attack in a big way.

The current bear market is no exception, and the recent angst may be due to the transiting midpoint of Uranus/Pluto [UR/PL] hovering at 21 cardinal over the past year.

The 9-11 attacks that caused Wall Street to close for a few days also boasted a transit to the NYSE Luna from Sun/Uranus [SO/UR]. This unique "panic" was exacerbated by 9-11's Mars/Saturn [MA/SA] afflicting the NYSE's Jupiter/Pluto [JU/PL] trine:

{[NYSE JU//PL/ME (2314' SAG)] = [9-11 MA/SA (2306' PIS)]}

How the SEC Checks and Balances the NYSE

The Masonic symbolisms carry over to the comparison of the NYSE chart to the SEC chart (see: Interaction of the SEC with the Bush Regime)  The Sun/Pleiades conjunction of the NYSE receives a square from Saturn conjunct iota Aquarii of the SEC chart, suggesting a serious and optimum attempt at regulation of the market by the Federal Government; considering the Sun's overzealous monied will revealed above in the combination of [SO = VE/MA = JU/NN], only a squaring Saturn could ever hope to reign in this kind of exhuberance.

NYSE & SEC biwheel
Figure 8 Biwheel of the NYSE and the SEC.

The other side of the SEC's checks on the NYSE is its Sun/Saturn [SO/SA], which represents policing by the public trust via laws enacted to define the boundaries of enterprise, which converges on the the NYSE's Mars that rewards over agression.

Figure 9 90 bi-dial showing the SEC's SO/SA on the NYSE's Mars.

Thus, we have in the SEC the optimum governmental tool to keep the NYSE honest and ethically healthy, which in turn benefits the average citizen investor.  This ideal breaks down, however, when a weak and clueless leader (Sun) is given the reigns of the SEC, thus tipping the balance of the astrological equation that makes the relationship between NYSE and SEC truly stabilized, counterweighted, and ultimately harmonious.  This "weak Sun" devitalization has been the case with the appointment of Harvey Pitt by Bush, and somewhat with Clinton's appointee Arthur Levin.  Let us not forget that the Congress ratifies these appointments, and must share in the blame.

With this in mind, the obvious solution to the matter is to encourage Pitt to resign, and to then install a more fitting solar personality to head the Commission.  This person needs to have the courage to enforce existing laws, which will restore confidence in the balance between the government and the private sector - a balance that is not only governing, but also crucial to long-term viability and public confidence, and thus the stability of our economy.
